A special collaboration between Thorne Natural Science School, CU Science Discovery and Cal-Wood Education Center!

Here's a chance for budding naturalists and outdoor enthusiasts to experience the best of what Boulder's environmental educators have to offer! It's a specially designed week combining Thorne Natural Science School and CU Science Discovery's trademark programs! We're combining our passion and talents to offer 4th and 5th grade students a fabulous week immersed in the natural beauty of the Front Range while learning about the plants and animals of Colorado's diverse ecosystems. We start by learning about Colorado's prairie through pioneer eyes and end with an overnight similar to what a mountaineer might experience.

Students will love developing their eco-team through group challenges and learning about topics on surviving in the prairie, in the foothills and in the mountains. We'll compare and contrast the ways that human communities have thrived during challenges with the ways that natural communities thrive in their particular ecosystems. A day at the CU Mountain Research Station hiking up to Niwot Ridge, followed by camping two nights at Cal-Wood Education Center are highlights of this exciting week. While at Cal-Wood students will learn wilderness survival skills, cook outdoors over stoves and build their own debris hut to sleep in! Join us for this local learning adventure celebrating the diversity of the Front Range as well as the diversity of programs offered to the Boulder community.
