Wilderness Camps 2008 > New Mexico Adventure
New Mexico Adventure
CANCELLED
Find out why Northern New Mexico is called the “Land of Enchantment”. The adventure begins at Wild Rivers Recreation Area, high above the Rio Grande Gorge. Our explorations find us truly enchanted by the quiet and vast landscape that has been sculpted by the Rio Grande River. Next is an immersion into the Taos area, including a tour of the 1000 year old Taos Pueblo led by Native Americans. Bandelier National Monument is our final destination. We'll spend a full day whitewater rafting on the Rio Grande River with Kokopelli Rafting Adventures, our licensed outfitters and guides. Paddling through White Rock Canyon, we"ll visit Anasazi ruins, take a side hike to Pajarito Springs for a refreshing dip, and end with one of the most diverse and beautiful hikes that we"ve ever experienced. Geology, archaeology, volcanology and cultural history of the area will come to life throughout the trip as we explore rock art, ancient ruins, and the area"s unique landscape. Frijole"s Canyon is a wonder to explore. It"s fascinating to imagine Ancestral Puebloan life 1500 years ago. We"ll end at Tsankawi, ancient ruins that still seem to hold the sacredness of a people who once walked in this place. This is a week of exciting wilderness learning and cultural explorations!
