SORCE Mission

The Student Outreach Retention Center for Equity is dedicated to providing strategies to prospective college students so that they develop an action plan that results in a degree in higher education. The constituency we serve includes the following historically underrepresented communities: Students of Color, First Generation Students, LGBTQQTI, Low Income Students, Non-Traditional Students, Student Parents and Student with Disabilities. Given that education provides upward social and economic mobility, it is SORCE's goal to help ensure that our constituency is able to benefit from opportunity.

This involves reaching out to these types of underrepresented students in K-12 and community college level and helping them develop an action plan to meet their collegiate goal. Additionally, SORCE provides student-to-student advocacy in order to retain underrepresented students who are already on campus by directing them to the resources where appropriate and effectively addressing of their issues, concerns and needs.

SORCE will accomplish this mission by:

• Utilizing a holistic philosophy for SORCE's outreach and retention efforts that values and honors the complete identity of the underrepresented individual
• Offering college preparation tools, knowledge, and guidance with the college entrance process
• Fostering a welcoming, safe, and inclusive community for underrepresented students
• Collaborating with the University organizations and departments to develop greater service options or by enhancing current programming for underrepresented students
• Maintaining a comprehensive resource with trusted contacts that is student-friendly and student focused
