Retired Faculty Association Graduate Student Awards

At the April 18, 2001, meeting of the Retired Faculty Association, the membership voted unanimously to make awards to graduate students at each of the four University campuses.  The RFA has entered into a contract with the University of Colorado Foundation, which will administer the awards.  Significant points of this contract are as follows:

Purpose: The funds are to be awarded to individual graduate students by the administration of the graduate programs on each designated campus, to support their research or other scholarly and creative work.

Criteria:

1. The funds will be distributed to designated campuses according to a schedule provided by the Fund Administrator [the treasurer of the RFA].

  2. The students to receive the funds will be determined by the Graduate School in which the students are enrolled, in accordance with each School’s normal criteria and procedures for granting merit-based scholarship or fellowship aid.

 3. The name, disciplinary area, and academic background of each student receiving an Award will be made known to the Donor [RFA] for its information, but not for its approval of the selection.

4. Each recipient of an Award will be invited to present a brief summary of the scholarly work in progress or completed with the assistance of the Award at one of the regular meetings of the Donor.

Funding: The Fund shall be initially established with the following gifts:

            1.   A cash gift of $1,600 from the RFA.          .

 2.   A pledge in the amount of $1,600 from the RFA.  This pledge is anticipated to be paid in July, 2002.

3.   The membership of the Donor have approved the following distribution of the funds as a condition for the gift:

In the year 2001,                                                           In the year 2002,

To the Health Sciences Center:  $1,000                           To the University of Colorado at Boulder, $1,000

To the University of Colorado at Denver:  $500               To the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, $500

4.  The membership of the Donor association have authorized the repetition of the cycle under 3, above, for the years 2003 and 2004, subject to approval of the funding by the membership after evaluation of the effectiveness of the Award during the first two years.  Further grants or changes in the amounts or scheduling of the contributions after 2004 are subject to approval by future action of the Donor membership.

5.       The Donor shall encourage its members and other retired faculty of the University of Colorado faculty to augment this fund by direct contributions to the Foundation.
