Recently, while Steven Arbues was in Spain researching a medieval instrument called the zanfona, Joshua Favors was investigating alternative methods of teaching jazz at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Chris Morris went to Germany to study the impact of cattle disease on Bavaria, while Kim Gossett, Katherine King, Janelle Knox and Catherine Bond stayed on campus to take on projects in fine arts, philosophy, biology and geography. What do these students have in common? They all received financial support for their work from CU's Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP).

UROP was designed to create research partnerships between faculty and undergraduate students. "Research" in this context is interpreted as any scholarly or creative activity ranging from traditional scientific experimentation to the creation of new artistic works. Undergraduate students at all academic levels--freshmen through senior--can participate in UROP because of the broad range of initiatives that are offered. UROP is a campus-wide program, supporting students from all schools and colleges in all academic disciplines.
