It is possible to see the progression of this pilgrimage route as a map of the subtle body, or at least to see the archetypal form of Purusha mapped onto the Ghats.

There are many ways that we might square this realization. Each of these would depend upon the specific position of the person making the associations.

• The priests at Keshava Ghat seem to be fond of attributing their location to the feet (as it was here that Vishnu first set foot in Kashi) , PancaGanga to the thighs, Manikarnika to the navel, Dashvamedha to the chest and asi Ghat to the head.

• However, a reverse association is equally probable.

• Such an association would mirror the pilgrim's progress along the route aligning internal and external pilgrimage.

• In this mapping schema, Keshava, or the crown cakra is not the final destination, but Manikarnika at the heart. For it is said that when the Kundalini finally ascends the sushumna nadi reaching the thousand pedaled lotus the abhishekam filters down to the heart, the abode of the Atman.
