1. Darpan:

This journal is a nicely done literary magazine devoted to reflections on India. It is produced by the students at the University of Illinois. As far as I can tell there are only two volumes produced; however, both of them are very nicely done The mission of this group is to propagate ideas about Indian culture and to provide a forum of expression where individual creatively engage their ideas through literature and art.

2. Electronic Journal of Tantric Studies:

The journal was established to collate essays on specific Tantras or on parts of them. While this was the goal, non-scriptural items are also published. Some of the topics include philosophy of language and knowledge, aesthetics, rhetorics, and translations of texts. For example they have translated Abhinavagupta's commentary on the DhanyAloka. 3. Electronic Journal of Vedic Studies:

This journal focuses primarily upon issues concerning the Vedic scriptures and can be accessed by subscribing at ejvs-list-request@shore.net. the journal contains articles, abstracts, news, and reviews of work relevant to the scope of the journal. 4. Hinduism Today:

This magazine which is also published in glossy hard bound format (the Electronic journal is cheaper) is based out of Hawaii and covers general events and issues of Hinduism worldwide. The on-line site contains archives of back issues of publications since 1993. This is an interesting forum to look at as it provides an entirely different orientation to the study of Hinduism than the one understood by the Academy. 5. Journal of South Asian Women Studies

This journal, edited by Enrica Garzilli, can be accessed at india@shore.net or at http://www.shore.net/!india/jsaws.htm Primarily this is a space where issues of law, civil rights, gender issues, religion, philosophy politics, modern literature folklore, architecture and many others issues are addressed as the concern scholars of South Asia and women in and from South Asia

6. Samhita:

This is an electronic magazine devoted to issues which are especially relevant to the study of the Vedas. It can be accessed at Samhita@mindspring.com. The journal is just beginning and has yet to publish any volumes. Some of the issues they hope to address are: What are the Vedas? What is in the Vedas? What is not in them?

7. South Asia Graduate Research Journal:

This journal, edited by Leah Young Renold, can be accessed at http://asnic.utexas.edu/asnic/sagar.htm. Truly an amazingly innovative forum, this journal (which also has a hard copy) is directed primarily at improving the quality of graduate research and writing. As a result of this primary orienting device, the topics contained within the journal span an extremely wide gamete of topics
