CU-Boulder Energy Initiative Names New Leadership Council Members The University of Colorado at Boulder's Energy Initiative, created in 2006 to help meet the world's sustainable and renewable energy needs, has announced a group of corporate leaders, entrepreneurs, investors, advisers, scientists, policymakers and academics as members of its newly formed EI Leadership Council.

Public Health Officials Investigating E.coli Cases The CU community should be advised that Boulder County Public Health (BCPH) is currently investigating a cluster of E. coli O157:H7 in the county. Since September 23rd, BCPH has investigated eight related cases. A cluster of seven cases includes CU students.

Arctic Sea Ice Hits Second-Lowest Extent and Likely Record-Low Volume, According to CU-Boulder Assessment Arctic sea ice extent during the 2008 melt season dropped to the second-lowest level since satellite measurements began in 1979, reaching the lowest point in its annual cycle of melt and growth on Sept. 14, according to researchers at the University of Colorado at Boulder's National Snow and Ice Data Center.

CU-Boulder Space Scientists Set for Second Spacecraft Flyby of Mercury NASA's MESSENGER spacecraft, which is toting an $8.7 million University of Colorado at Boulder instrument to measure Mercury's wispy atmosphere and blistering surface, will make its second flyby of the mysterious, rocky planet Oct. 6.

CU's Golden Buffalo Marching Band Celebrates 100th Anniversary For 100 years the CU Golden Buffalo Marching Band has been on hand to celebrate University of Colorado football wins, pump up the crowd when the chips are down and to represent the university with pride and zeal wherever it goes.

CU Researchers Hosting Public Forums on Affirmative Action as Part of Study University of Colorado at Boulder School of Education researchers are hosting 16 public forums about affirmative action over the next several weeks in Boulder and Denver in an effort to find out what the public knows and could learn about the controversial topic.

CU-Boulder Leeds School of Business Sources on Financial Crisis Sanjai Bhagat, professor of finance, can address the credit crisis brought on by the subprime mortgage industry. Bhagat's research interests include corporate lawsuits and business valuation and his teaching interests include corporate finance and governance and also entrepreneurial finance. CU Receives $1 Million Grant to Help Developing Countries Respond to Climate Change Impacts The University of Colorado at Boulder has received a $1 million grant from the Rockefeller Foundation to establish a new worldwide consortium to help link decision-makers in developing and industrialized countries with institutes, government agencies and individuals to collectively share their climate, water and weather-related knowledge.
