Skills and Training for Students
Students in the BURST program are required to attend the professional development seminars and activities sponsored by BSI. These seminars are designed to enhance student training and enrich the research experience. Sessions will be taught by the BSI staff, CU Faculty and other experts! As much as possible, sessions will be tailored to student needs.
Current Schedule*
- Session 1 - Program information, lab orientation, maintaining a lab notebook, experimental design, reading journal articles, and safety
- Session 2 - Brainstorming and strategies for writing scientific proposals
- Session 3 - Troubleshooting and finalizing scientific proposals

During the academic year, session 1 will be a day-long orientation at the beginning of the research experience. Sessions 2 and 3 will be held during the spring semester with each session lasting approximately 2 hours.
During the summer, session 1 will be one day of training before the start of the research experience. Sessions 2 and 3 will be toward the end of the summer and will each be approximately 2 hours in length.
Other optional sessions, such as information about other undergraduate research opportunities, will also be offered.
