The Office of International Education (OIE) serves as the CU-Boulder campus coordinator for the U.S. Student Fulbright competition. In 2011, we were recognized by the Chronicle of Higher Education as a Top Producer of U.S. Fulbright students!

 

Fulbright Program for U.S. Students 

Why should you be interested in a Fulbright grant?  U.S. Student Fulbright grants fund you to do overseas study/research or to be an English teaching assistant.  To be eligible for these grants, you must:

  • be a U.S. citizen at the time of application 
  • have at least a bachelor's degree by the time the grant starts
  • not have a terminal degree in your field (usually a PhD) at the time of application

Plan now to apply for grants for the 2013-2014 academic year (application deadline in summer 2012).

 

Informational meetings about applying for Fulbright Grants

  • Monday, Nov. 14, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. in the Center for Community's JD Abrams Cultural Center
  • Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. in the Center for Community, room S350
  • Wednesday, Mar. 7, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. in the Center for Community, room S350
  • Tuesday, Apr. 17, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. in the Center for Community, room S350

All potential applicants for 2013-2014 grants are strongly encouraged to attend one of these meetings.

 

  • Current CU-Boulder students who wish to apply for a Fulbright must apply through OIE. 
    • We also are available to assist alumni with their applications. 
    • Nancy Vanacore is your front line Fulbright Program Advisor.  You may contact her by email (nancy.vanacoreATcolorado.edu) or by phone (303-492-6016).
    • We provide extensive advising for our Fulbright applicants, but it is up to you to contact us early so you can maximize this benefit. 

  • The PRELIMINARY campus deadline for 2013-2014 applications has yet to be determined.  Please check back.  It may be as early as May 2012.
    • BEFORE this deadline, you must have met with Nancy Vanacore, Fulbright Program Advisor at CU-Boulder, to talk about your application. 
    • BY 5 pm on the deadline date, you must have submitted your Fulbright applicant information through our CU-Boulder online survey (different than the Fulbright EMBARK application).  Nancy will be sending you and email with the URL for the survey. 

  • The FINAL campus deadline for the completed application is: September 10, 2012 at 5:00 p.m.
    • Turn in, to the Office of International Education, printed copies of your whole application by 5 p.m. on September 10. (See Help in the Embark application system for help on printing your application.)

  • Campus interviews will take place in September/October 2012.  We will contact you about your interview.

  • We refer you to Fulbright's excellent web site where you can find very helpful information about how to prepare your application to give you the best chance of success.

David Boren Graduate Fellowship (NSEP)

The applications for the 2011-2012 National Security Education Program's David L. Boren Fellowships for graduate students are now available at www.borenawards.org. Boren Awards provide unique funding opportunities for U.S. students to study in Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East, where they can add important international and language components to their educations.

Boren Fellowships provide up to $30,000 for language study and international research. The application deadline for the Boren Fellowship is February 1, 2011.

Fellowship information on many of the prestige international scholarships, for instance Rhodes, Marshall, Mitchell, Churchill, etc., is available from the Top Scholarships Advisor.
