OIE Awards Global Citizen Awards The Office of International Education (OIE) is pleased to honor CU's Global Citizens for their outstanding contributions to international understanding.
2008 Winners:
Jeanie Bell, Assistant Director of Admissions, has been instrumental in bringing many wonderful international students to our campus. One would be hard pressed to find anyone more devoted to the field of international admissions than Jeanie. She has built up an efficient team approach to handling the many applications processed by the Office of Admissions. She has also established a strong relationship with our graduate departments. This gives everyone a feeling of being invested in internationalism and internationalizing the campus. Internationalism starts at the local level. It may start with one person who has passion and can inspire others and who can spark interest and investment. That one person in Jeanie Bell. Philipp Wetzler, Ph.D. Candidate in Computer Science, is a genuine leader who is always willing to put in the time and effort to make events a success. In Spring 2007, Philipp was one of a small group of students who met to discuss activities that the International Coffee Hour could sponsor. This group decided to revitalize the international students groups by forming a new club, which became CU International. Philipp was instrumental in this decision and in making it possible. As part of CU International, Philipp has volunteered to lead many activities for international students. He inspires others by taking the lead, contributing ideas and being a kind, level-headed leader and team builder. Through his service and interactions, he has impacted the lives of hundreds of students from all over the world. Kashyap Kaul was chosen for the Study Abroad Student of the Year Award because of his enthusiasm and positive energy on his study abroad program in addition to his dedication and commitment to global citizenship. Kashyap was the student assistant on the CU faculty-led study abroad program to Iceland in the summer of 2008. He is a pre-med student who finds the time to volunteer with the Student Emergency Medical Services Program. He even decided to travel early to Iceland in order to volunteer at an Icelandic hospital and take language courses. His nominator states that he is the exemplary global citizen. 2007 Winners:
