Off-Campus Living Resources
OCSS Legal AdviceLiving in your own place off-campus is not only an exciting and wonderful experience, but also carries great responsibility and expectations as well. To help CU students navigate the potential legal perils and unexpected complications of rental housing and living off-campus, OCSS has a licensed attorney on staff who can provide free legal advice about almost any issue that involves your rental housing. Because a lease is a legally binding contract, we highly recommended that you come in for a lease review with our Legal Advisor BEFORE you sign your lease. Our Legal Advisor can also show you how to best protect your security deposit and offer suggestions on resolving disputes with your landlord or your roommates. Should you ever find yourself in a legal dispute, our office should be the first resource you think of.
In addition to offering legal advice to CU students, OCSS is actively working to protect student’s interests by working with City of Boulder officials in the drafting, implementation, and enforcement of various landlord/tenant ordinances. We have representatives that sit on several City committees to assure the student voice is heard and taken into consideration. We work with landlords and permanent neighbors to develop a sense of community and foster positive relations with students living off-campus and also publish periodic informational publications offering educational and practical advice to residential tenants.
