The City wants to hear from CU students about proposed regulations that will affect them

After you read the brief description below, please take a moment to go to HERE for a video explaining the regulations and their benefits to renters. On this page you will also find the Smart Regs Comment Card (it's only 4 questions) for you to let the City know your thoughts on whether they should put in place an ordinance that would require rental property owners to make their rental properties more energy efficient, comfortable and reduce energy bills.

The City of Boulder is currently collecting comments on proposed rules that would require all rental properties to meet a minimum standard for energy efficiency. It would do this through regulations requiring landlords to make certain energy efficiency improvements if they do not meet the standard (adding insulation, sealing gaps in windows and doors, etc.).

This is an innovative standard aimed at improving comfort and reducing energy costs of rental properties while cutting greenhouse gas emissions produced in the City. The proposed regulations will be phased in over time so the immediate required investment on the part of the property owners will be relatively small -- rents should not go up as a result of it.

And the City wants to hear from you -- the occupants of the rentals -- on these plans. The city has primarily heard from property owners who, for the most part, oppose the regulations to make their properties more energy efficient. Now it's your turn to be heard.
