  • Mechanics and physics for Li ion batteries
  • Micro/nanomechanics of materials and structures
  • Mechanics and physics of heterogeneous media
  • Design of active materials and structures

Professor Dunn's research interests are broadly directed toward problems in the mechanics and physics of materials and structures, focusing on issues at small scales and how to incorporate these into the design of material and structural systems at higher length scales. Specific emphasis has been directed toward the behavior of heterogeneous multifunctional material systems, shape memory polymers, piezoelectric materials, and materials and structures for microelectromechanical systems. His research is based on a strong coupling between theoretical and experimental efforts.
