Tenure Track Opportunity:
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for two full-time positions beginning fall 2012. The positions are for tenure-track assistant professors with disciplinary expertise in the areas of (1) fluid mechanics (posting #815279) and (2) design/energy and thermal systems (posting #815280); exceptional candidates may be considered for appointment at an appropriately higher academic level.
In the area of fluid mechanics (posting #815279) we seek outstanding individuals engaged in studying fundamental aspects of flow physics using computational, theoretical, and/or experimental techniques. Any area of traditional or emerging fluid mechanics will be considered including high Reynolds number flows and turbulence, multi-phase flows, renewable energy (wind, wave), and combustion.
Research areas of interest in design/energy and thermal systems (posting #815280) include conceptual design, design theory and methodology, multi-scale design, large-scale system design and optimization, and multidisciplinary design optimization addressing fundamental issues of thermal sciences and/or applied to systems that impact energy technologies, renewable and alternative energy, energy conversion and storage, combustion and catalysis, alternative fuels, energy efficiency and waste-heat recovery.
Qualified candidates for either of the two positions with research interests addressing scientific and/or technological issues related to scalable and sustainable energy systems may be eligible for appointment as an Affiliate or Fellow of the Renewable and Sustainable Energy Institute (RASEI), a joint institute between the University and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and a joint appointment at NREL.
Candidates are expected to strongly complement and strengthen existing departmental research in design, fluid/thermal sciences, and other energy-related areas. Candidates must have an earned doctorate in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field with a strong background in research in their area of specialization.
Successful candidates must have a strong commitment to scholarship, the development of an externally funded research program, and teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels in mechanical engineering. Post-doctoral or similar professional experience is highly desirable but not required.
Interested persons should apply through the web site www.jobsatcu.com using the appropriate posting numbers and submit electronic files (pdf format) containing a cover letter, curriculum vita, two-page statements of research and teaching interests, respectively, and the names, addresses, and telephone numbers of at least three references.
Review of applications will begin as they are received, and will continue until the positions are filled.
