Project Description:

The accurate positioning of gallium nitride (GaN) nanowires onto pre-patterned electrodes is being investigated based on the mechanism of dielectrophoresis.  The investigation consists of determining ideal electric field parameters (i.e. frequency and dielectric constants of materials), optimizing electrode design, and comparing surface tension forces for different design cases.  Additionally, the effect on placement accuracy and yield from integration of dielectric materials onto the nanowires via atomic layer deposition (ALD) is being examined.  Each aspect of the investigation is explored through experimental analysis utilizing a function generator, probe station, and high resolution optical microscope, along with analytical and numerical approximated solutions for comparison.
