The CADillac Garage

For their final project in Computer-Aided Design and Fabrication (MCEN 1025), mechanical engineering students work in small teams to design and model a new body for a micro radio-controlled car, using SolidWorks CAD software. The bodies are fabricated locally using stereolithography by Protogenic, who generously donates this service. Stereolithography is a rapid prototyping process that can produce accurate plastic models directly from CAD files. When students get the new bodies back, they finish and paint them, and demonstrate them to the class in presentations during their last week of class.

Students learn a lot about the latest mechanical design technology - and get to explore their creativity as well. After the projects are presented, each section votes to select their "best of section" project. The entire class then votes among the nine best of section projects to choose an overall favorite project.

The most recent vehicles can be seen in the display case outside the main entrance to the ME wing. Check out their work.
