Ed Kosmicki (‘83) is a Glenwood Springs-based free-lance photographer specializing in news and business pictures. His work has been published by news agencies worldwide. A former photographer for The Denver Post and the University of Colorado at Boulder’s Office of Public Relations, he packed up and headed west four years ago.

“I picked somewhere I wanted to be and went there,” says the Denver native. “Now I’m all over the place, from Vail to Aspen. It’s taken four years, but the my business is finally established. This has turned into a great area for news photography.” He rolls up 25,000 miles a year on his pickup, always keeping an eye out for a new photo op from Mother Nature.

Kosmicki caught this bald eagle resting in a snow-covered tree last winter within 200 yards of his home in Glenwood Springs. “This photo got the most attention of any I shot in the past 18 years. After it ran in color in the Post I got requests for more than 30 prints from all over the U.S.,” he said. Musician Herbie Hancock at a reunion performance
