Alum is new adviser
By Heather Kenny
The lines outside the office of Assistant Dean Steve Jones were shorter this fall after the School of Journalism and Mass Communication added a pre-journalism adviser to its staff. Jeanne Meyer-Brown (MA '89) works with the 400 students seeking admittance to the School.
"Pre-journalism students are in a unique situation," Meyer-Brown said. "They're not in the School yet, but they want to plan their academic careers as soon as they can. Only about half of them are going to be admitted. Sometimes it's difficult for them to know how to proceed."
Previously, pre-journalism students received guidance from Jones and a combination of orientations, once-a-semester advising nights and peer advising.
Before returning to CU, Meyer-Brown was an academic adviser at St. Louis University in the honors program and an adviser in the School of Business Administration at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. Brown also has a bachelor's degree in English from CU.
