PHOTO SPREAD: Glenn Asakawa

The year before he graduated from CU, Glenn Asakawa ('86) was already a photojournalist for the Boulder Daily Camera. "I had very conscientious professors who were geared to helping students become professional journalists," he said. Asakawa went on to shoot for the Los Angeles Daily News for two years and then returned to his native Colorado in 1991 as a photographer for the Rocky Mountain News, winning a Pulitzer Prize in 2000 as part of the newspaper's coverage of the Columbine High School massacre (see page 15). He moved over to The Denver Post in 2000 before joining the University's photo unit earlier this year. Asakawa has won numerous state and national press photography awards. In 1994 he spent two months retracing the travels of explorer John Fremont; the photos were published in "Vanishing Colorado: Rediscovering a Western Landscape."
