Linux Student System Administrator

ITS Systems group now hiring highly-motivated Linux geeks to assist in the maintenance and support of over 400 servers across CU campus. Duties include OS installations and upgrades, hardware support, support for system backups, direct customer support, and many other duties involved in Linux server administration.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Linux experience and interest
  • Basic understanding of programming concepts
  • Good communication skills and ability to work well with customers with a range of technical understanding
  • A demonstrated ability to learn independently
  • Strong work ethic
  • Two-year commitment required
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record

Desired Qualifications: Programming experience using Perl, C/C++ and/or Unix shells

Work Schedule: Flexible hours. 12-20 per week during fall and spring. Up to 40 available in summers.

Student Enterprise System Administrator

Student system admin needed to assist with enterprise operations for Boulder campus. Duties include customer support for enterprise services, administering and troubleshooting Windows and Unix servers, programming, writing technical documentation, hardware repair and salvage, and a variety of other duties involved with support of central campus systems.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience doing admin-level tasks on Windows or Linux systems (home or on-the-job)
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Two-year commitment as a CU Boulder student employee
  • Basic understanding of programming concepts
  • Self-motivated work style
  • Interest in computer technology
  • A strong desire to learn

Useful Qualifications

  • Experience with Perl, C, shell, .NET or html coding
  • MS Exchange experience
  • Good writing skills

Educational Technology Facilities Support (ETFS)

These positions entail setting up and operating audio/visual and multimedia equipment in technology lecture halls around campus.

Student IT Trainer

Share your computing knowledge and skills with fellow CU students, faculty, and staff. Specific job duties include:

Knowledge, Skills and Traits:

  • Academic or work experience in computing is required with a working knowledge of Windows (required), Macintosh and UNIX operating systems (preferred). Familiarity with MS Office applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) is required.
  • Experience with basic web page creation, ftp, CULink e-mail and calendar, and basic networking.
  • Administrative duties include: promoting Computing Quick Classes to the students, faculty and staff, creating and updating PowerPoint presentations.
  • Looking for strong customer service skills and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively (oral and written).
  • High level of motivation, detail and responsibility desired.
  • Great opportunity to share your IT knowledge with others and develop or fine tune your teaching and presentation skills.

Work Schedule (ideal): 8-12 hours/week (M-F). This position is year-round for the Fall, Spring and Summer terms with pre-scheduled time off. The position is based on main campus. Preferably can commit at least two years as an undergraduate student.

Pay: $10-$12/hour to start depending upon experience.

Educational Technology Support (ETS), ITS Computing Labs and Kiosks, Engineering and Design

The student will assist in the management and maintenance of computer systems and networks, including:

  • Software and hardware setup and testing on enterprise lab computers
  • Computing Lab maintenance and management of software
  • Documentation
  • System and application support

Pay: Start at $10.50/hr

Qualifications:

  • High level of motivation
  • Good communication skills
  • Proficiency with microcomputer hardware and software
  • CU Boulder student

Miscellaneous:

Position will work primarily at ITS offices in the Folsom stadium, 3rd floor and on campus as necessary. Position provides opportunity to learn more about microcomputer systems than is possible in a classroom setting.

IT Service Center - Frontline

These positions provide technical support to faculty, staff, and students at CU- Boulder in a call center environment. This includes support for PCãs running Windows 2000/XP/Vista, Apple Macintosh OS 10.X, e-mail, the WWW, Unix accounts, telephones, long distance, voice mail and most other services provided by ITS.

Academic or work experience in computing is required and a working knowledge of windows, Macintosh and UNIX operating systems is preferred. Must have strong customer service skills and be able to communicate clearly and effectively over the telephone. A criminal background check is required for this position.

Hours of operation are 7:30 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. during the summer and 8 a.m. - 7 p.m. during the school year. Positions are often available around the beginning of a new semester.

We provide ongoing technical and customer support training plus a great working environment on campus in the Telecommunication Center. You will be part of a successful team, making a difference for tens of thousands of computer and telephone users.

University Information Referral Agent

Now interviewing for positions! Student Assistant II - University Information Referral Agent in the Computing Center (3645 Marine Street, East Campus). This position requires a minimum of 5 hours per week, and coordinates around your class schedule.

Train at $7.44 per hour, then advance to Student Assistant III after training, and regular advances thereafter.
