Overview
Microsoft’s new OS, Microsoft Windows 7, is expected to be released in October. Due to incompatibilities with a number of campus security programs, Information Technology Services recommends delaying upgrading.
At this time Windows 7 is incompatible or unsupported by vendors associated with:
- CUantivirus, CU-Boulder’s no-cost antivirus software
- PGP whole disk encryption
- The campus VPN (Cisco VPN). Windows 7 does work with the web version of the SSL VPN which is currently being offered through a pilot program.
- Entire compatibility list.
Unless you have tested your critical software and know that it functions properly, or have some compelling reason to upgrade, our recommendation is that you wait to upgrade to Windows 7. ITS is continually working with the vendors to remediate possible incompatibilities. Please return to this website frequently for updates.
