Mac OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard) —Resource Center

Overview

Apple recently released Mac OS X version 10.6 (aka Snow Leopard). Due to incompatibilities with a number of campus security programs, Information Technology Services recommends delaying upgrading to this new operating system.

At this time Snow Leopard is incompatible or unsupported by vendors associated with:

  • The Cisco VPN client and the Juniper SSL NetConnect client.
  • PGP whole disk encryption.
  • While the upgrade was touted to have built-in support for Microsoft Exchange servers, Mac Mail does not provide increased Exchange functionality with ITS's current Exchange environment (Exchange 2003). IMAP configuration is still required.
  • Entire Compatibility list.

Unless you have tested your critical software and know that it functions properly, or have some compelling reason to upgrade, our recommendation is that you wait to upgrade to Snow Leopard. ITS is continually working with the vendors to remediate possible incompatibilities. Please return to this website frequently for updates.
