Hardware & Software

Overview
Through the Faculty Computer Purchase program and software site licensing, ITS receives bulk discounts on some hardware and software. Students are now "strongly recommended" to own computers while at CU-Boulder. Departments are recommended to maintain a three-year replacement cycle for faculty and staff desktop computers. ITS can advise in software and hardware purchases for all three groups.

  • Repairs--Go to PC Maintenance for repairs and most warranty work.
  • On-campus software tweaks and updates for faculty and staff--Schedule an ITS BugBuster visit by calling the Information Technology (IT) Service Center at 303-735-HELP or sending mail to help@colorado.edu

Question
and Answer
I'm a student. Do I have to buy a brand new computer to bring to campus?

No, students can purchase a used computer, or can bring a computer from home. Check the minimum recommended configurations for used computers to be sure your used computer has what it needs to run email, a web browser, and word processing and spreadsheet applications.
