ITS's Anti-Spam Technology
ITS' servers regularly process more than 10 million incoming e-mail messages per day. It is estimated that more than 75 percent of these messages are spam. Add to that a growing number of viruses and you begin to understand the scope of the problems that unchecked e-mail could pose to a network like CU-Boulder's.
ITS uses advanced technology to route e-mail and block spam. While no solution guarantees that all spam will be removed from e-mail with 100 percent accuracy, ITS works diligently to keep as much of it away from customers as possible.
ITS’s e-mail filtering solution uses an extensive collection of rules to determine a message's likelihood of being spam. Messages with a mid-range score are flagged as “Potential Spam” in the subject line of the message. This allows you to set up a filter to keep these messages from ending up in your inbox. Messages with a very high score are blocked entirely. For more about the university's process for filtering spam, please visit Marking Potential Spam.
Spam Filtering for CULink, Exchange, and Other ITS E-mail Servers
For anyone who uses CULink, Exchange, or a different ITS e-mail
server such as spot.colorado, edu or rintintin.colorado.edu,
the filtering process can be done with e-mail client based filters found
in Outlook, Apple Mail, or the CULink web client. For help setting up
filters using supported e-mail clients, go to the filter
how-to page.
