Several items on this web site have been updated including: Kerberos Interoperability Diagram, Active Directory Design Diagram, and Account Synchronization Process Diagram.

NDOS has created two security guides for campus IT administrators. They are the UCB Windows 2000 security guidelines and the UCB IIS 5 security guidelines.

The ITS security presentations and handouts from the campus IT support community event on November 12th are available online at the IT support community event web page.

The Microsoft Windows 2000 Resources page has been expanded to include links to security and licensing information.

It has been a while since the last update, so there are several new items.

On July 11, 2001 the Network and Desktop Operating Systems group will be giving a Windows 2000 presentation at the UCB IT support community event. The presentation will be available here after Jully 11th.

NDOS has begun beta testing the next version of Microsoft Windows, Windows XP.

On May 16, 2001 Microsoft released Windows 2000 Service Pack 2.

On June 5, 2001 UCB hosted a one-day Windows 2000 event for Colorado area colleges and universities. The kick-off presentations to the discussions are available here.

Additional documents have been added to the UCB Windows 2000 Administrator's Guide.

A set of important new documents is now available for UCB IT administrators deploying, or thinking of deploying, Windows 2000 on campus. These documents can be found in the UCB Windows 2000 Administrator's Guide.

In November a member of the UCB Windows 2000 team participated in a Tech Talk hosted by the Corporation for Research and Educational Networking (CREN) regarding Windows 2000 deployment in higher education. An archive of this talk is available for anyone interested. A December 1999 Tech Talk featuring the leader of the UCB Windows 2000 RDP team is also archived on the site.

There is also an update archive page containing old project updates. As we add updates to the main page, older ones will be moved to the archive page.

It has been more than two months since the last posted update and much has happened in the UCB Windows 2000 project. On June 22nd UCB hosted a Windows 2000 in higher education workshop that 60 people from over 20 schools across the nation attended. Information about this workshop, including the presentations themselves, can be found on our workshop webpage.

Construction has begun on the production Active Directory (ad.colorado.edu). We have finished the account population, and account synchronization is running. We have created a process diagram and a project plan for account synchronization.

On July 27th and 28th, Microsoft and the Common Solutions Group hosted a workshop on Windows 2000 security in higher education. The presentations from this workshop should be posted online soon and we will provide a link to them at that time.

Service Pack 1 for Windows 2000 has been released by Microsoft and is available here.
