Students
in the Norlin Library and the Lester Math Physics Library can check out
laptop computers for use while in the library. These computers are connected
to the campus network using a wireless network connection. Wireless coverage
areas are shown in blue on the wireless
coverage maps. These computers must be used within these areas to
ensure a network connection if network based applications, such as e-mail,
web browsing, or printing are needed. If these services are not needed,
the laptops can be used anywhere in the library facility for Word, Excel,
and PowerPoint.

Usage and Care Guidelines
Below is a list of guidelines for proper use and care of these laptops.
Please read these instructions, as they provide important information
about issues that are specific to wireless laptop computing, and about
the terms of use of these computers.
- The laptop computers may not be taken from the Norlin Library. Removal
from the library will be considered theft of University property.
- Do not leave the laptop unattended. You are personally financially
responsible for the computer from the time it is scanned at checkout
to the time it is scanned when checked in. Replacement cost for each
laptop is $2000.00.
- Report any damage or malfunctions to the Media Library circulation
desk immediately. Any damage not reported at checkout time will be assessed
to you and billed accordingly.
- Save your work often when working with the laptops. Instructions on
uploading files to a file server for later retrieval are available on
the desktop of each computer.
- The checkout period for these laptops is 3 hours, or the depletion
of the battery, whichever comes first. Battery life is affected by screen
brightness, disk usage, and the application being used. Watch for warnings
that the battery is running low and save your work often.
- These laptops must be turned in before the Media Library closes. The
laptops will automatically shut down 30 minutes before closing time.
You will be alerted of shutdown 15 minutes before it happens, so please
save, print, or upload your work at that time and turn in the laptop.
Laptop Problems
If you have a problem with one of these laptops, please report it to
the Media Library circulation desk, and/or visit the following web site
and follow the link to Report
a Workstation or Lab problem.
