Subject: Politics and Space Conference Support for Graduate and Post Doctoral Students

The Institute of Behavioral Science at the University of Colorado, Boulder in conjunction with the Center for Spatially Enabled Social Science at the University of California-Santa Barbara and the Council on Research and Creative Work at CU-Boulder will hold a conference on March 10-12, Y2K in Boulder Colorado that focuses on NEW DIRECTIONS IN SPATIAL ANALYSIS FOR THE SOCIAL SCIENCES. This conference will feature presentations by leading geographers and political scientists using spatial techniques and frameworks for analyzing political phenomena. The newly established CSESS, funded by the National Science Foundation, will support travel and living expenses of graduate students and current post doctoral students to attend the conference. Travel on US carriers and local expenses for actual expenditures, at the U.S. Government per diem rate, will be reimbursed. Up to eight awards (approximately $650 each) will be granted on a competitive basis. Graduate and Post Doctoral Students in Political Science who wish to attend may apply by submitting a copy of their vita and a short summary of their interest which focuses on their potential use of spatial analysis. We are primarily interested in students who are interested in learning more about these approaches, rather than students who already have extensive backgrounds in these areas.
