Overview of the International Affairs Program
This page offers an introduction to the IAFS program and what
students can expect from becoming an IAFS major. For IAFS
majors, we have listed the major requirements below, with
the added convenience of a planning worksheet. The worksheet
can be printed out, so students can see what courses they

Career Possibilities
The International Affairs Program prepares students for
career opportunities in the federal government, international
organizations and agencies, international nonprofit organizations,
international businesses and the Peace
Corps.
For students planning to continue their education in graduate
school, the program provides an excellent background, allowing
students to pursue graduate studies in international relations,
political science, economics, history, law, international
management, and journalism. We have our own library on career
guides and graduate programs, so please come by the program
office for a visit.
The Office
of Career Services offers a number of programs and services
designed to help plan careers, including workshops, internships,
and placement services after graduation. For an appointment
with a career counselor or for more information, call 303-492-6541
or stop by Willard Administrative Center 34.

Offices and Programs
There are several departments, university programs, and
student groups which are of interest to International Affairs
majors. Students are encouraged to take part in the extra
curricular activities which these groups and programs have
to offer. Here are just a couple of examples:
The Alpha Eta chapter of Sigma Iota Rho is a national
honor society for International Affairs majors that promotes
scholarship. Students must have junior standing, have completed
29 or more credit hours in the major, and have an overall
grade point average of 3.3 and a major grade point average
of 3.4 to be eligible for membership. Please contact the
program at 303-492-7295 for further information.
The Model
U.N. offers students the opportunity to experience international
diplomacy and negotiations first hand. Students work year
round preparing information concerning their chosen country.
Delegates from around the world attend National Model U.N.
Conferences to participate in a simulated United Nations
meeting, debating the problems of the world. Email nmun@colorado.edu
for more information.

Study Abroad
International Affairs majors are strongly encouraged to
spend a semester or a year at a foreign university to obtain
a new perspective on the theoretical and practical problems
of government. As an International Affairs major, you can
usually satisfy some requirements while abroad. The Study
Abroad Office offers programs throughout Europe, East
Asia, Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America, and the Middle
East. In all, you may choose from over* **240* study abroad
programs and may spend from a few weeks to a full academic
year abroad, depending on the program selected. Language
study is a prerequisite for participation in many of the
programs, so early planning for study abroad is essential.
For more information,* please see the Study
Abroad Programs website at or visit the Study Abroad
Program office in the basement of the
Environmental Design building. You can call the Office of
International Education at 492-7741 or stop by the lower
