Getting Started with the MIF Files
----------------------------------
If you copied the mif files, then the file names listed above will
have a .mif suffix except the gif image file. The book file,
Thesis.book.mif, is set up to use doc files, so the first thing you
must do is convert the mif files to doc files. After that is done, you
won't use the mif files any more and can delete them.
To convert them, start Framemaker and open each mif file one at a
time. As soon as you open a file, select Save As from the File
menu. The default save Format should be set to Normal by default. All
you need to do is remove the .mif suffix from the Save in File name
and click the save button. Then go into the File menu and Close the
file.
Repeat that process for each file to convert them individually from
mif format to doc format. Don't forget to do the same conversion
process for the Thesis.book.mif file, too. The window it opens won't
look like the document windows you get with the other files, but you
must convert it to doc format the same way you converted the other
files.
At this point, you will have opened all the mif files, saved them in
doc format, and then closed them. Now you should open the Thesis.book
file and can use the File menu in its window to open the individual
doc files. You can proceed to work on them as described in the rest of
this explanation of how to use the template.
