Thank you for your interest in the graduate program of the Department of Geological Sciences at the University of Colorado, Boulder. In response to your recent inquiry, you will find accessible through our Website address: http://www.colorado.edu/GraduateSchool/index.html application forms for admission, science summary, and letter of recommendation forms to be used by those persons you ask to submit  letters on your behalf. Applicants are urged to contact potential faculty advisors in their areas of interest well ahead of the deadline in order to explore potential dissertation topics. Information about faculty research and teaching activities can be found by following the "Faculty" link on the Department's web site.

Upon being accepted into our program, the Admissions Office will forward a confirmation packet to you. In a separate mailing subsequent to that a University of Colorado catalog will be sent. Should you wish to obtain a catalog prior to that time, you may do so by sending $10.00 with your request to Catalog Order, CU Book Store, University Memorial Center, Room 10, Campus Box 36, Boulder, CO 80309-0036.

The minimum academic standards for admission to the graduate program at the University of Colorado include an undergraduate grade point average of 2.75 (A=4, D=1, F=0), and, if you have taken graduate courses, a graduate GPA of 3.0 (if you have taken 12 hours or more of graduate work). Most students admitted have higher GPAs. The general sections of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) are required as part of the application. The geology subject test is not required; students with other majors may wish to take the appropriate subject test.

January 1st (December 1 for International applicants) is our application deadline for admission into the following Fall semester. We do not accept applications for the Spring Semester.
