Rima Salys graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard University in Slavic Languages and Literatures and has been at the University of Colorado since 1994. She teaches courses on 20th c. Russian culture, literature and art, the history of Russian cinema, topics courses in Russian film and society, Dostoevsky, and the Russian short story. Research interests include Soviet and post-soviet film, 20th c. Russian culture, women’s autobiography. She has published books on the artist Leonid Pasternak (Oxford University Press), on the modernist writer Iurii Olesha (Northwestern), and has recently edited the memoirs of Josephine Pasternak for Slavica Press. Her most recent book Laughing Matters: The Musical Comedy Films of Grigorii Aleksandrov will be published by New Literary Review Press in Moscow.
