Program Description
Documentary is the foundation of cinema. The first filmmakers carried their bulky cameras into the world around them. Documentary film at CU respects this long and remarkable tradition while emphasizing new forms of practice and artistic innovation. Film and video are viewed as creative tools for personal expression and exploration. In a workshop environment, each student develops the basic technical and conceptual skills needed by the contemporary independent filmmaker. The program encourages an openness to all media art forms, though with special emphasis on contemporary documentary practice. As a regionally based program, CU documentary is especially attentive to the voices of Colorado and the broader rocky mountain west.
