Boulder Faculty Assembly BFA-R-10-0501 Whereas: The availability of pass/fail grading in non-required courses permits students to undertake challenging courses outside of the major area of study; During the first two weeks of the semester, it is often difficult for a student to make an informed decision on whether pass/fail grading is an appropriate option. Be it resolved that: The Boulder Faculty Assembly endorses a proposal to move the deadline
for a student to change the status of a course from pass/fail grading
to a letter grade or vice versa. The BFA recommends that this deadline
be set to the same deadline for dropping a course with the instructor's
signature. We recommend that the election of the pass/fail option be
available to students without the instructor's signature. We endorse
the continuing policy that each academic unit may place limits on the
number and types of courses that may be used to satisfy degree requirements.
