Motion: Revise Bylaws Concerning BFA Intercollegiate Athletics Committee

Whereas:
The two student representatives currently appointed to the committee by UCSU and UGGS are not necessarily, and, historically, have not been student athletes, and

Whereas:
Increased input from student athletes would increase the effectiveness of the committee, and

Whereas:
The Boulder Campus' "faculty representative to the NCAA" described in the bylaws is in reality a representative to the Big 12, and

Whereas:
Resource personnel for the Chair of the Committee should be allowed to attend meetings,

Be it Moved that the Bylaws describing the composition of the Intercollegiate Athletics Committee be revised as follows:

The committee shall be structured according to the provisions set forth in Article V, Section 2 of these Bylaws (eight faculty and two students, one undergraduate and one graduate) with the addition of five ex officio members (the faculty representative to the Big 12 Conference, the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, the Intercollegiate Athletics coordinator of academic programs, and two student-athletes). In addition, faculty and Intercollegiate Athletics staff who serve as resource personnel for the Director and the committee Chair may also attend meetings.

Article VI, Section 7a: Intercollegiate Athletics Committee

a. Composition:

The committee shall be structured according to the provisions set forth in Article V, Section 2 of these Bylaws [ (eight faculty and two students, (one undergraduate and one graduate student)] with the addition of three FIVE ex officio members (the faculty representative to the BIG 12 CONFERENCE, NCAA, the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, and the Intercollegiate Athletics coordinator of academic programs, AND TWO STUDENT-ATHLETES). In addition, FACULTY AND INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETICS STAFF Intercollegiate Athletics members who serve as resource personnel for the director AND THE COMMITTEE CHAIR may also attend meetings.
