Boulder Faculty Assembly
Faculty Affairs Committee Motion:
Salary Grievances
BFA-M-1-0202
- In any given year, faculty may file performance evaluation grievances
and/or salary grievances with their department salary grievance committee,
which shall be separate from the committee that determines salaries.
Given that salary information is often not available until May or
June, grievance committees that find in favor of the plaintiff may
not be able to effect a material change until the following year.
- Current salary grievance procedures allow for faculty to grieve
career salary inequities, but not annual merit awards. Current policy
does not define how long a salary inequity must persist for it to
be a career salary inequity. For the purpose of defining "career salary
grievance," a career salary inequity may be defined as an alleged
inequity of two or more years' duration. A career salary grievance
may be filed with the department salary grievance committee, which
shall be separate from the committee that determines salaries.
