A new fund has been established by the Boulder Faculty Assembly (BFA) for the benefit of the faculty. The BFA has opened an account with the CU Foundation for the purpose of supplementing the cash prizes, above the amount provided by the Chancellor, associated with the BFA Excellence Awards in Teaching; Research, Scholarly, and Creative Work; and Service.
The BFA Excellence Awards are the most important forms of recognition available to Boulder Campus faculty, and are especially meaningful because recipients are selected by their peers. The Boulder Chancellor has generously provided award monies since the program began. Given the campus financial situation, the Chancellor is unable to increase the amount of the prize and we are concerned that inflation will erode its value. The purpose of the new BFA account is to supplement the awards provided by the campus, using the interest earned by the fund. We believe that the faculty being recognized with BFA Excellence Awards should receive a cash prize with a value that keeps up with inflation.
All faculty members on campus are encouraged to join other members of the BFA and contribute monthly to this fund, thereby assuring the continuing value of the BFA Excellence Awards. Contributions can be made through a payroll deduction; even small contributions coming from many individuals will make a big difference. Forms for payroll deductions, which are tax deductible, are available at http://www.cufund.org/forms.php. The name and number of the fund is "Boulder Faculty Excellence Awards," fund 01-22893.
A formal letter will go out soon informing faculty of this new fund—encourage your colleagues to participate. This is a worthwhile effort that will support and encourage faculty excellence. Thank you for your assistance.
