Report on Activities of BFA Academic Technology Committee for 2001-2002 This committee was inactive during the fall semester. In the spring semester, Andrew Cowell of FRIT volunteered to be the chair of the committee, and to attempt to recruit new members and to reactivate it. Participants in the committee include Anne Bliss, Greg Carey and Mitchell Nathan as well as Andrew Cowell. Two other rostered committee members, Bruce Henderson and William Waite, were contacted to see if they were still interested. Henderson said no, while Waite requested a draft of the notes of our first meeting and expressed continued interest but has not formally committed to participate. Two other people, Scott Pepet of the Law School and Elizabeth Jessup of the College of Engineering, have also requested copies of the notes, and are tentatively interested. They have not formally committed to participate yet either. The committee met once, in April, to discuss future directions and activities. One concrete decision was made - to inform Vice-Chancellor Robert Schnabel that the committee expected to be included in his newly-forming Faculty Advisory Group to ITS. The committee also came up with a number of areas in which action was needed. The immediate concern was to select one or two key areas in which to work. Members Cowell and Carey will meet with Schnabel on May 8, 2002 to get his feedback on our various areas of interest and concern. After this meeting, these two members will get back to the rest of the committee - both official and tentative - with a suggestion of a more specific future agenda for next year. We expect that no initiatives will begin until that time. In summary, the committee is up and running again, and will begin working in earnest next fall. Andrew Cowell |
