Boulder Faculty Assembly
Intercollegiate Athletics Committee Resolution:
BFA-R-1-0400
Faculty Involvement in Athletics

Whereas Intercollegiate Athletics is an integral part of the academic and social culture of the University of Colorado at Boulder; and

Whereas CU student-athletes are expected to fulfill normal expectations of students at CU Boulder; and

Whereas it is therefore the role and responsibility of the CU faculty to advise and interact with the Department of Athletics in matters related to student-athlete welfare and academics; and

Whereas Athletics receives substantial financial support from the Boulder Campus; and

Whereas Athletics receives substantial attention in the eyes of the public; and

Whereas several recent and important policy and enforcement decisions related to the foregoing principles have been made in the absence of faculty input; and

Whereas the BFA, through its standing committee on Intercollegiate Athletics, is the primary point of contact between Athletics and the faculty at CU Boulder;

Be it resolved that the BFA should participate, through its Committee on Intercollegiate Athletics, in all policy decisions regarding Athletics that potentially affect the faculty of CU Boulder, the campus life and academic progress of CU student athletes, or the public perception of CU Boulder. The Department of Athletics, the Chancellor's office, the President's office, and any other entities involved in CU policy decisions related to Athletics are included in this Resolution.
