Bio

PhotoElisabeth Arnould-Bloomfield received her Ph.D. in French Literature from the University of California at San Diego and specializes in 20th-century poetry and critical theory. She rencently finished her first book entitled Bataille, la Terreur et les Lettres. The book questions canonical readings of Bataille as a “terrorist” writer and proposes to reconsider Bataille’s critique of literature through its paradoxical affinities with Jean Paulhan’s call to a “return to rhetoric.” Elisabeth, who now plans to work on representations of Animality in 20th Century thought and culture as well as questions of trauma and memory, has also published articles on Francis Ponge, Pierre Michon and Bataille’s readings of Proust.
