This second issue of DES: A Scholarly Journal of Ethnic Studies, like the first is a collection of papers, some previously published, by the faculty of the Department of Ethnic Studies in The University of Colorado at Boulder. Its purpose is to more widely disseminate the kinds of work in which we are engaged, hence its appearance on the World Wide Web.
The Department of Ethnic Studies is staffed by persons in Afroamerican, American Indian, Asian American, Chicano/a, and Comparative studies representing the areas of instruction and research that make up the principal foci of our department.
Currently, those personnel are: Ward Churchill, Chairman and professor of American Indian Studies; William M King, Jualynne E Dodson, and Angel Nieves in Afroamerican Studies; Deward E. Walker in American Indian Studies; Lane Hirabayashi in Asian American Studies; Elisa Facio and Kenneth Orona in Chicano/a Studies and, Adrian Gaskins in comparative/American Studies.
This journal is also an experiment whose intent is to familiarize those who visit this site with those persons and their ideas. It is our hope and desire to publish additional issues of the journal in the days ahead. Accordingly, we invite and welcome your comments on what you find here. Please address your remarks to the editor, William M King, at kingwm@spot.colorado.edu .
