NORTH AMERICAN PROPOSALS FOR PAPERS ON

"African Religious Influences in Our Americas"

SUBMISSION PROCEDURE

Proposals for papers must be no more than 350 words typed double- spaced. Submit two copies of each proposal NO LATER THAN MARCH 1, 2000

Proposals for papers must include the author's brief curriculum vitae and written authorization for Casa Caribe to publish the work in its journal ("Del Caribe"), should the final paper be selected for publication. Authors will be notified as to the acceptance or denial of their proposal.

Selected authors will be notified by April 15th 2000. Three double-spaced copies of the full paper must be received in the AART office NO LATER THAN MAY 15, 2000. Requests for minimal audio-visual or other media equipment MUST be made to the Festival Organizing Committee NO LATER THAN MAY 30, 2000. The Organizing Committee reserves the right to determine which papers best serve the thematic interests of Festival del Caribe and Casa Caribe.

TRAVEL INFORMATION

Whether or not you will present a paper, we invite you to attend the XX Festival del Caribe. This annual international gathering of musicians, scholars, performers, researchers, writers, artists, dancers and religious practitioners will highlight the people of the Caribbean and their cultural contributions to the Americas. Festival del Caribe features the historic city of Santiago de Cuba as the venue for the more than 100 activities including:

* Art Exhibitions, Community Theater Performances, Poetry Workshops

* Music Workshops, Performances by Popular Orchestras

* Religious Rituals and Presentations

* Scholarly Panels

* Evening Gala Event Featuring African Influenced Dance Performances

* Folklore Fiestas In City Parks

ESTIMATED COSTS

Cost is approximately $950 per person and includes roundtrip travel from point of departure for Cuba (e.g. Toronto, Miami, New York, Cancun, Mexico), 7-day double occupancy lodging, 2 meals per day, ground transfers, and visa and entry fee to cultural events. ROUNDTRIP TRAVEL FROM YOUR LOCATION TO THE CITY OF DEPARTURE IS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS FEE.

A $200 non-refundable deposit is due March 25, 2000. FULL BALANCE is due MAY 15, 2000. Because of restrictions between the United States and Cuba, ONLY CASH, CHECKS, OR TRAVELER'S CHECKS can be accepted for payment. Travelers must sign an affidavit of their occupational status for travel to Cuba and have a current U.S. passport and immunizations.
