How To Apply for the Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Writing
Applications are available to process online via the Office of Admissions website.

THE FOLLOWING MATERIALS ARE REQUIRED FOR APPLICATION
Please note, due to security and authenticity issues, we are unable to accept ANY electronic application materials unless they are submitted through the online application system, ApplyYourself.
- Complete/submitted application from ApplyYourself
- Three letters of recommendation (a fourth is optional). The cover form can be found through ApplyYourself under the Downloadable Forms link, bottom left when in the Application for Admission module.
- Tuition Classification Form for those seeking Colorado resident tuition.
- Teaching Appointment Application for those seeking TA positions. Please visit this link for the teaching application: www.colorado.edu/English/acadprograms/gradteachapp.htm
- Nonrefundable application fee of $50 ($70, for international students). Check, cashiers check, or international money order in U.S. funds made out to the University of Colorado.
- Two official copies of transcript(s) from each college or university attended.
- A statement of purpose (12 pages).
- Writing sample. A polished manuscript of original creative work (10 pages of poetry; 25 pages of fiction or non-fiction creative prose or screenplay or stage play; or some combination of the above).
- Scores on the GRE General Test sent to the Department of English. The GRE Subject Test is optional for the MFA in Creative Writing. For reporting purposes, the UCB Institution Code is 4841. The Subject code is 2503.
NOTE: With the exception of the the writing sample and the transcripts, all of the above requirements can be processed through ApplyYourself. Transcripts and the writing sample should be sent to:

International Student Application for Admission
- Financial Statement for International Applicants with the required documentation.
- Scores on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or acceptable equivalent examination. Students who speak English as a native language or who have completed at least one year of full-time academic study at a U.S. institution at the time of application are exempt from this requirement.
- All other materials specified above.
