Classroom Atmosphere
We are here to work together in studying and analyzing prose by women
writers. Toward that end, we must agree to respect the
dignity and importance of each of us. Some common understanding of
classroom issues needs to be clarified. The following will help us move
forward.
- We need to work cooperatively as much as we can. We will strive to
establish strategies that will foster such work.
- Discussion is central to our course. So, when one person has the
floor, others must be quiet and not engage in private conversations.
Please do not do email during class discussions or oral presentations.
- Analysis is central to our work. Consumption of food and drink is
not permitted in 1B45 Humanities, our classroom.
- Arrival on time acknowledges the respect we all deserve. Late
arrivals will be counted as absences. More than two absences for reasons
other than documented illness or documented emergencies in the family will
be cause for failure in this course. (Registered students who do not
attend all classes of the first week will be dropped administratively.)
- Consumption of food and drink is not permitted in 1B45 Humanities, our
classroom. Please eat and drink outside of the classroom, not in it.
- Bringing/sharing the printed text we are working on is crucial for
each class session.
- Please turn off all cell phones before class begins.
- Please leave all pets outside of the classroom.
- If you have conflicts between class assignments and religous
observances, please contact the instructor as soon as possible for a plan
for accomodation.
- If you have a temporary or permanent disability, please see
the instructor as soon as possible in order to make appropriate
accomodations. Please see the UCB policy on disabilities at "Policies on
disabilities" at www.colorado.edu/policies/index.html.
- There are CU policies governing sexual harassment and amorous
relationships that everyone should be conversant with. Please consult the
website: "Office of
Discrimination and Harassment."
- The University of Colorado at Boulder now has an Honor Code that
students are asked to observe. Please review it at
www.colorado.edu/academics/honorcode.
