Introduction to Graduate ProgramThe Department of Economics at the University of Colorado at Boulder provides rigorous and practical graduate training. Graduate students are trained in core theory areas, and then specialized fields. Graduates are well prepared for careers in research and teaching universities, private sector consulting, and government service. Faculty fields of specialization include international trade/finance, natural resource and environmental economics, public economics, urban and regional economics, development economics, labor economics and demography, political economics, economic history, industrial organization/game theory, and econometrics. Additional field courses include time series analysis and computable general equilibrium analysis. The faculty in the department pride themselves on their international research reputations. This enables the department to expertly direct students in their areas of study and to assist in the placement of students after they receive their degrees. In particular, there are frequent opportunities for joint research projects between faculty and graduate students, many of which lead to graduate student publications. The Department of Economics not only stresses high quality research, but also focuses on excellence in teaching, and many of the faculty have won teaching awards. Our typical entering classes average about twenty students. This means that students can expect to have close contact with the faculty. Furthermore, our intent is to provide significant financial support for well-qualified students who are eligible for aid. CU-Boulder is an excellent university, located in an exceptionally attractive environment. This makes graduate study here all the more rewarding. Please do not hesitate to call on any of the faculty in the department if we can provide additional information to help you make your choice of graduate schools. We think that you will find that Colorado has a lot to offer. University of Colorado at Boulder Catalog
