Course Information


I.    General: Economics 3818 is a one-semester course in statistics and econometrics for economics majors.  There are two main goals of this course.  The first objective is to give the student a fundamental understanding of probability and statistics.  The second goal of this course is the use and understanding of regression analysis, the major tool of applied economists.


II.    Prerequisites: Course prerequisites are Economics 1000 or 2010 and 2020; and Economics 1078 and 1088 or equivalent.  These prerequisites are strictly enforced.


III.   Requirements: There will be three lectures weekly, meeting Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 1:00 to 2:50 in HUMN 135, and one recitation sections per week (check schedule for meeting place and times).

V.   Software: Microsoft Excel
will be used for much of the data analysis in this course.  Microsoft Excel is supported in all of the campus computer labs, including the lab in the basement of the Economics building.
