SYLLABUS
Once
course registration has settled (i.e. people have dropped, waitlist has
cleared etc.), I will communicate important announcements by email. However, your ability to receive emails
should not be viewed as an alternative to coming to class. I will use your email address that the
university provides me. Please make
sure that you regularly check this email address.
By
department policy, I am not allowed to add anyone to the course beyond room
capacity or supercede university waitlist policies. The waitlist will have to clear according
to the priority ordering assigned by the university.
Average grades for this course in previous semesters has been C+/B-. Quantitative and
analytical reasoning and attending lectures regularly are key
to doing well in this course. The material I present in class is not easily
accessed in any textbook. For example,
I will sometimes present material based on my own experience doing research
in developing countries. It will be very difficult for you to do well in
exams if you miss lectures.
The
following are not finalized. These are from a previous semester. I am making
these available just to give you an idea about course assignments
