Social Issues Projects
Working on projects in the campus and local community introduces students to new experiences that may challenge their opinions and assumptions about society. As students become involved in their projects they will meet people that may have very different life experiences than their own. Opportunities for reflection on their experiences are the basis for personal exploration of what it means to be you in relation to others, with your specific beliefs, values, background, education, abilities, racial identity, gender, and hopes for the future. As they work on their projects students explore complex problems and use a collaborative process to analyze and resolve them. These activities in the community promote social responsibility and citizenship and nurture the development of community leaders for all sectors of society.
