GETTING STARTED

Welcome to the Division of Continuing Education and Professional Studies at the University of Colorado at Boulder!

To thine own self be true...
There is no one right way to get started, but answering the following questions can help you in the processes of course selection. The course you select should meet your educational, professional, or personal goals.

  1. How flexible is your schedule? Can you take classes during the day? Or would night classes work better in your schedule?
  2. What are your goals? Do you want to learn a new hobby or take a class for your personal enrichment?
  3. Or, are you a working professional looking to advance or change your career in computers, business, or engineering?
  4. Are you interested in trying out CU or a specific department before you enroll? You might consider ACCESS, Summer Session, or Boulder Evening Credit.
  5. Are you able to travel to CU-Boulder? If not, learn more about our Independent Learning courses that enable you to take classes via correspondence and the Internet.
  6. Did you start a bachelor’s degree program or earn an associate’s degree and now want to finish your BA? You may be able to complete your degree through Continuing Education.
  7. Are you a high school student? Our High School Concurrent program allows you to earn high school and college credits simultaneously.

Course Selection
Continuing Education offers two types of courses: credit and noncredit.

Credit courses allow you to earn university credit that may be used towards a degree. If you are not currently enrolled at the University of Colorado, credits may be transferred back to your home institution or applied to a degree program at CU if you enroll in the future.

Noncredit courses are courses that do not award university credit. They may include business, engineering/technology, personal enrichment courses, and English language courses. Many of these courses can lead to a professional certificate.

Still Not Sure?
If you are still unsure what courses or programs would best meet your needs, call 303-492-8252 and ask to set up an appointment with an academic advisor. Our advisors can help you determine your goals and how Continuing Education can help me you meet your goals.
