Festival Opening Night, Wednesday, March 10
Opening Reception, 6-7:30 p.m. in the British Studies Room
(5th floor) of Norlin Library. Come meet other participants and
learn about participating schools while enjoying dessert and beverages.
We invite each school to create a Legacies exhibit (free-standing,
no larger than 36 X 48 in.) highlighting the defining moments in
their program's personal dance history which will be displayed during
the reception and in the theatre lobby during the Festival.
Legacies Concert, 8 p.m. on the Mainstage of the University Theatre
Showcasing dance in the 20th century and beyond, the concert includes:
- Heretic (1929) by Martha Graham set on CU dancers by former
Graham dancer Melissa McCorkle
- Choros (1941) by Katherine Dunham performed by the Cleo Parker
Robinson Dance Ensemble, one of the crown jewels of Colorado's
cultural heritage
- Set and Reset/Reset (1983) by Trisha Brown, performed by CU
students, reconstructed under the direction of guest artist and
CU alum Shelley Senter, with a new set/lighting and costume design
- Rein/Bellow (2003) by guest artist and festival adjudicator
Bill Young, performed by his New York-based company
- Almost Together (2003) a duet by west coast choreographer Gabriel
Masson
- A premiere by cutting-edge multi-media artist Michelle Ellsworth
- A Hip Hop finale by CU MFA Larry Southall
This concert is supported by the James & Rebecca
Roser Visiting Artist Program, the Gail Pokoik Visiting Artist Fund
and the National College Choreography Initiative (NCCI), a Leadership
Initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts with additional
support by the Dana Foundation, administered by Dance/USA, the national
service organization for professional dance.
Closing Celebration, Saturday, March 13
Gala Concert, 7 p.m. on the Mainstage of the University Theatre
Building
The concert program will consist of the dances selected by the 3
adjudicators, representing the excellence and wide range of work
shown on the adjudication concerts.
Gala Party, immediately following the concert in the UMC Ballroom
Celebrate new friends and inspiring experiences with food, fun,
music and dancing! The dances selected for the National Festival
will be announced at the Gala Party.
